ASCP 2015 Annual Meeting & Exhibition - Las Vegas, Nevada

The 2015 ASCP Annual Meeting and Exhibition took place at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino from October 30 to November 1st. The conference had a long and interesting list of education sessions, a full exhibit hall, and product theaters (Actavis, Pfizer, Mylan, etc). The conference started with an opening general session featuring Zappos Insights along with a speech from ASCP’s leaders including current President, Dr. Nicole Brandt.

Osteoperosis Event

ASCP-UW held an Osteoporosis Screening at Aljoya Thornton Place on November 14, 2015. We chose Aljoya because it offers a contemporary senior living with an array or amenities and unsurpassed healthcare to their tenants.

First General Meeting

ASCP-UW held their first general meeting on October 12th, 2015 with PediaPUPS. We had a great turn out of students interested in learning about the full circle of life (pediatrics to geriatrics).

Korean Health Fair

Early fall quarter ASCP-UW hosted our first event of the school year, an osteoporosis screening at the annual Korean Community Health Fair on October 10, 2015. We screened over 80 participants at the St. Andrew Kim Church which has made this event one of the busiest and engaged ASCP-UW hosted screenings.

Plein Certificate

Our annual information session on the Plein Certificate in Geriatrics (elderly adults' healthcare) was held on October 23, 2015 during all-student-hour. Dr. Leigh Ann Mike, a clinical assistant professor and coordinator for the Plein Certificate, graciously led this presentation for a second time. The purpose of this session is to provide students with more information on the benefits of this certificate and the application process.

Initiating New Research

Research has always been an exciting and interactive component of ASCP-UW. For the last couple years, the organization had dedicated its time and resources to investigate the degree of medication adherence in the elderly population. This year, ASCP-UW is focusing their attention on transition of care by conducting a cross-sectional study that involves prospective and retrospective chart reviews performed at four hospitals in Washington—Valley Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Medical Center, and Providence Regional Medical Center.

Brown Bag Medication Review - Ballard

ASCP-UW jumped right into the quarter, holding our first Brown Bag Medication Review of the year on November 1st, 2015. A group consisting of preceptors and students of all pharmacy years joined members of the Ballard Landmark GenCare Living Community to have active conversation about their medication regiments.

Member Spotlight: Haven Onewein

This year, ASCP-UW is proud to recognize PY3 Haven Onewein for his outstanding contributions to our organization. This is the second consecutive year that Haven has been honored as a distinguished member, a testament to his continued support and dedication. Indeed, ASCP-UW President Christopher Andrews remarks that “Haven has been a very loyal member to ASCP since his first day in pharmacy school.”
