Osteoperosis Screening at Aljoya Thornton Place

ASCP-UW held an Osteoporosis Screening at Aljoya Thornton Place on November 14, 2015. We chose Aljoya because it offers a contemporary senior living with an array or amenities and unsurpassed healthcare to their tenants. Fortunately, Alijoya was just as happy to have us, as we were to be hosting the screening there. We had a total of 3 PGY2s preceptors who were able to work closely with 3-4 students each. This set up allowed students to gain experience in a more inclusive, personalized manner. The learning experience can then be tailored towards the need of each individual student whether they are a PY1s and PY2s. The positive feedback we received from Aljoya, the participants and the attendees is why ASCP-UW continue to host osteoporosis events. Students are able to apply their knowledge to help with measuring bone density and counseling patients while the patients are able to understand the depth of their condition better. Overall, ASCP-UW Osteoporosis Screening event was successful in offering care and answering any questions residents or elderly visitors had during their visit.
