Brown Bag Medication Review

ASCP-UW jumped right into the quarter, holding our first Brown Bag Medication Review of the year on November 1st, 2015. A group consisting of preceptors and students of all pharmacy years joined members of the Ballard Landmark GenCare Living Community to have active conversation about their medication regiments. Students had the opportunity to meet and greet seniors, practice first-year blood pressure screening skills, and utilize some therapeutic knowledge and counseling skills in reviewing medications. This review included both prescription and over-the-counter medication counseling with the specific goal of detecting any potential medication issues. Students were able to provide seniors with general, patient-friendly information about their medications as well as provide the opportunity to have any questions seniors have answered. Both our senior visitors and the community center coordinators were very appreciative of the event and encouraged future events hosted by ASCP-UW. Overall, the event was a great learning experience, especially for first-time students to a BBMR, and a great opportunity to get hands on practice with the clinical skills acquired at the UWSOP.
