The Miss Greek Pageant was initiated by Christopher Chan and the brothers Delta Tau Delta in the fall of 1986 as a charitable fraternity philanthropy whose proceeds were to benefit cancer research at the world famous Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. These donations have vastly helped to further the research programs instituted by "The Hutch" and helped the hundreds of thousands of Americans afflicted by the scourge known as cancer. After incurring a financial loss during its first year, 1987, the Miss Greek Pageant has increased incredibly.

The Miss Greek Pageant involves one contestant from each sorority. Preparations begin months in advance for the men of Delta Tau Delta as well as the women. Two undergraduate Delts serve as coaches or "helpers" for each young woman. It is the responsibility of these coaches to carry out any special tasks and participate in their respective sorority's fundraising. Equally important, the men of Delta Tau Delta are individually required to raise funds as part of the house effort to insure equal participation amongst the undergraduate members Delta Tau Delta.

Come pageant time in late February, massive sorority participation culminates in the Delta Tau Delta Miss Greek Pageant, held in Meany Hall, on the University of Washington campus. The contestants are judged on several categories. These categories are: modeling, talent, philanthropic services & community awareness, personality, and fundraising. In addition to the incredible effort the women put into pageant, the Miss Greek Pageant is highlighted each year by a celebrity "MC" as well as a celebrity judges panel.

The men of the Gamma Mu chapter of Delta Tau Delta and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center would like to take the time to give heartfelt thanks to each individual sorority member, both past and present, as well as the numerous other people without whose help the incredible success of the Miss Greek Pageant would not be possible. Many thousands of people have benefited tremendously from the research that this philanthropy has made possible and many more will benefit from Miss Greek in the future.
