President: Michelle Tanaka

Hi, my name is Michelle Tanaka and I am the PRSSA Chapter President for the 2009-2010 school year. I am a senior pursuing a B.A. in English and Communications: Journalism. I joined PRSSA at the end of my sophomore year and served on the Executive Board as VP of Membership the following year. After enrolling in the SVC writing class and getting my feet wet with my first agency internship at Wilson PR, I knew public relations was the career choice for me.

This past summer I interned at Publicis Consultants PR and had the opportunity to work on a social media campaign for WONKA candy as well as the product launch for Goodbyn, an eco-conscious lunchbox. Currently I am interning with Barokas PR and serve on the ASUW Publicity and Programming Committee. After graduation I plan on returning back to the Bay Area and would like to work in consumer or technology PR.

For me PRSSA has always been about the people you meet. From the speakers to the advisors to the students in our chapter or in a chapter across the country, these connections are invaluable. One of my main goals this year is to help members create meaningful relationships with their peers and professionals through great meetings, workshops, events and socials.

Public Relations Director: Brendan Hughes

My name is Brendan Hughes, and I am the Public Relations Director for the UW PRSSA chapter.  I grew up across from downtown Seattle on Bainbridge Island, and graduated from the high school there.

I am a senior and a communications major, and plan on pursuing a career in public relations after graduation.  This year I plan on finding a couple internships, and participating in the mentorship program this chapter offers with the local PRSA chapter.

My main passions, among the many, are connecting with people, and music. The two seem to go very well hand in hand. During my attendance at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, WA, I was the Musical Coordinator.  That position introduced me to the field of PR and then fueled my desire to be a part of it.  Today, in addition to my work with the chapter, I do freelance PR consulting for a couple Seattle based production companies.
