How to get involved in Army medicine
without being in the Army
Civilians can also engage in Army medicine and enjoy many of the same benefits available to active-duty Army physicians. Medical jobs are available at military facilities around the country and throughout the world. Search for openings at: http://acpol.army.mil/employment/
The HPSP scholarship is available to members of various health professions. Service members will owe one year of active duty service for each year of scholarship. While in school, students will conduct 45-day active duty training for each year of scholarship they receive. The actual length of the active duty training may be less than 45 days. A general outline of this process is listed below:
Interested students may apply for HPSP scholarships by contacting a recruiter for any of the military services
The first active duty training assignment is typically Officer Basic Course (OBC) conducted at Fort Sam Houston. More information on OBC can be found at: http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/obc/
Subsequent active duty training assignments will consist of rotations at a variety of army teaching hospitals
In the fourth year HPSP students will apply for training positions through the military match process (Joint Services Graduate Medical Education Selection Board - JSGMESB)
For more information about the HPSP scholarship, active duty training assignments, the military match and available residencies please visit http://www.mods.army.mil/medicaleducation/
