2018-2019 ECS@UW officers Election

Mission Statement

  • Educate members of the student chapter in electrochemical sciences
  • Educate members of the greater Puget Sound community via outreach programs
  • Provide opportunities for professional networking and professional development

Election Procedure

  1. now-9/25 Collect the nomination for positions. You can self-nominate up to 2 positions.
  2. 9/25 – 9/27 11:59 am On-line voting –  you will see candidates’ name and why they want to take the position. (must log-in with UW ID.  Up to 2 votes for each position. If candidates in the position are less than 2, then 1 vote for each position. )
  3. 9/27 1 pm Announce the new officers.

Openings

Each officer should expect to serve for one year, from September to August of the following year.

President

The president acts as the chief executive officer of the chapter. The role is to give the “big picture” guidance of the chapter and motivate the entire chapter. The president should have full knowledge of the duties of each officer and can give informative advice. The president is responsible for organizing and facilitating officer meetings. The president should maintain a good relationship with the Electrochemical Society.

Vice President of Education

The Vice President of Education is responsible for organizing bi-weekly meetings (journal clubs), summer book series and any education event which supports the chapter’s mission.

Vice President of Professional Development

The Vice President of Professional Development is responsible for organizing the annual industry panel event, career talks, networking events, building and maintaining relationships with industry representatives to provide opportunities for networking and professional development.

Vice President of Outreach 

The Vice President of Outreach is responsible for organizing outreach activities include mentorship/outreach events, scientific demonstrations, guest speakers (coffee talk series), and collaborative events. The role of outreach coordinator is not limited to these events; he or she is encouraged to seek out outreach opportunities.

Director of Communications

The Director of Communications is responsible for advertising event and the chapter on social media channels and event liaison, organizing the chapter’s social. Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a team. This position should work closely with webmaster.

Director of Open Science

The Director of Open science is responsible for promoting open science, facilitating the intentional sharing and reuse of generated research/products, encouraging publication on ECSarXiv, and other open science platforms like Center for Open Science, GitHub, etc.

Secretary

The Secretary shall take notes during meetings/events and share the notes with members via e-mail and other channels and website, submit the chapter updates quarterly to ECS Interface magazine. This position should enforce other officers to document the procedure of the meetings/events.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall be responsible for managing the funds (bank accounts and cash) and maintain an updated public ledger of available funds. Also, the treasurer shall maintain a projected budget and collect funds for the required purchases. The position is encouraged to organize fund raising events with President and Vice Presidents.

Webmaster

The Webmaster will set up and maintain the ECS@UW website, google groups and chapter’s e-mail address. This position should work closely with Director of Communications.
