Support

cademic success is a critical component of the college experience and we believe that academics should be the top priority of all of our members. We understand that the transition from high school to college, the transition into a major and ultimately the transition into a career can be all be challenging situations, so we seek to support one another as much as possible.

During the school year we have programs where all members set academic goals to strive for and discuss the steps they will take to reach them. Members are expected to have a certain number of documented study hours each week depending on their GPA from the previous quarter – there are various times and locations to accommodate all schedules.

We are fortunate to have a wonderful chapter house with many academic resources for our members. The entire house features wireless and Ethernet internet, so members can study wherever they choose. Our newly-remodelled Study Room features plenty of space for desktop computers and printers, as well as tables for group studying. Our study file system is another service for our members to use.

Throughout college our members are encouraged to explore all of the options available to them that offer exciting opportunities for personal growth, such as internships, service learning, and study abroad. Over the past year we have had members participating in internships with Sports Illustrated, volunteering at the University District Roots Shelter, and studying abroad in South Africa.

A distinct benefit of living in a sorority is being part of a diverse sisterhood where many different majors are represented. By speaking with your sisters you can learn about majors that range from Bioengineering and Journalism to Finance and Comparative History of Ideas (CHID). This gives you a chance to ask about exceptional professors and exciting classes to take in the future.

We encourage each and every one of our members to seek academic success and we know that this support makes a difference. We have members that have gone on to medical school, law school, and many other graduate programs as well as service programs like Americorps and Teach for America after graduation. If you have questions about our academic program, please contact Sara VanNortwick, Academic Achievement Chair, at sarav@u.washington.edu .
