For Parents of Prospective Candidates

What are the first thoughts that pop into your head when you hear the word "fraternity?" If you're like most, then some words might have been parties, alcohol, out-of-control, and the like. While there are some fraternities that have worked hard to uphold this stereotype, this is not the heart of what fraternities are about. Some of the obvious features of a fraternity, beyond social opportunities, include the increased athletic opportunities to participate on intramural teams, being part of years of tradition, living in an all-male chapter house, and building a brotherhood that will not only last during the college years, but throughout a lifetime.

Friendships developed in a fraternity last far beyond graduation. Men who have shared the same experiences, have had the same goals and have grown together as young men, continue that friendship and brotherhood throughout life. Whether a member holds an office, as most do, or simply carries out his fraternal duties, he becomes more responsible and dependable. The opportunities for leadership development in fraternities are incredible. Each member now has a house and a home in which he can truly take pride. These characteristics are exclusive to fraternities.
