My
work has taken me through a number of financial institutions over the
last 25 years. After receiving my B.A. in finance from the University
of Utah in 1980, I went to Cornell University to complete their
intensive Japanese language program called FALCON. My MBA work was done
at the University of Washington where I graduated with dual
concentrations in finance and international business.
I entered Chemical Bank’s management training program upon graduation
(Chemical Bank was merged into the current JPMorgan/Chase), where I
learned more accounting and financial analysis than I ever did at
college. That work took me to Tokyo for a few years, but I returned to
New York and Chemical Bank's Head Office just in time for the stock
market crash of 1987. I was a lending officer to the Japanese
broker/dealers at that time. Next I went to Deutsche Bank AG and
originated both commercial banking and derivatives trading business
with U.S. multinationals that were headquartered in the Northeast.
In the mid 1990’s I moved to AIG, American International Group, a large
and very aggressive insurance and financial services firm that all know
too well now, where I worked in the Global Risks, a new division that
developed financial risk insurance programs for corporations. That work
led me to AXA Insurance of France and then to Winterthur Insurance of
Switzerland to help build risk portfolios in CDO's - credit default
obligations - in both organizations.
With a growing family we decided to put down roots in a place near
family and friends and we moved to Seattle in late 2000. I began
teaching in 2001 at Bellevue Community College in economics and 7 years
ago started teaching at Cascadia CC in economics and accounting.
Starting in 2006 for one year I was at UBS in portfolio development and
had my Series 7 and Series 66 licenses. Currently I am studying for the
CFA Level 1 exam. I have been leading courses in the UWB Business
Program since 2007.
