Hurricane Katrina Relief Project -- Urgent Actions

Hurricane Katrina Relief Project

In March 2007, CHRJ helped finance 13 UW law students to do volunteer legal work in New Orleans. The students spent their spring break helping people still affected by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. The students’ week-long projects included working to preserve due process in housing demolitions, investigating jail conditions, protecting immigrants’ rights, and measuring soil contamination levels in different neighborhoods. Students worked with non-profits including Common Ground, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the New Orleans Workers’ Center for Racial Justice, and the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center.
