Donate a Day's Pay
Each year, CHRJ donates one or more grants each year to the Public Interest Law Association (PILA) to provide University of Washington Law School students with funding to do human rights work. This grant is funded by proceeds from the CHRJ bookstore and from an annual fundraising drive called “Donate a Day's Pay.” During the Donate a Day’s Pay campaign, CHRJ asks students who have secured paying jobs for the summer - especially those students working in firms - to donate the equivalent of one day’s pay to the CHRJ summer human rights grant fund. To show our gratitude, CHRJ hosts a dinner party where student donors have the opportunity to meet and talk in an informal setting with professors working in the fields of human rights, business and corporate law.
CHRJ initiated Donate a Day’s Pay in 2006. Since then, CHRJ has been able to donate at least one full $5,000 grant to PILA each year. For the summer of 2009, we raised enough money to fund a full and a half grant! Again this year, the Asian Law Center donated food and PILA donated wine for the thank-you party. We thank all of the students, professors and organizations who have helped make Donate a Day’s Pay a success.
