About the program

Many ESL students do not receive the help and guidance they need, making it difficult to adapt in a new country and a new school. Translate Change's Mentorship Program gathers college students to serve as peer mentors for ESL students at the Seattle World School. In bringing these groups of students together, we hope to make the transition to a new country a smoother and easier process for students from new immigrant and refugee families.

High school students at the Seattle World School are introduced to our program in the 9th grade, where they have the options to attend our bi-monthly events. Once students are in the 10th grade, they will be paired up with a mentor from the University of Washington. Mentors will serve as a resource for these students through one on one tutoring, help with college preparation, and other essential elements of their transition.

Our Vision

Translate Change hopes that through this mentorship program, students from the World School will be able to receive the guidance they need to succeed academically and socially in a new country. We also hope to provide college mentors the opportunity to either reconnect to their own culture or learn about a new culture.

How You Can Contribute

Translate Change is a growing organization. College students can contribute to our efforts by becoming a mentor to students, joining the executive committee. Not a college student? No worries, you can become an ally by being a speaker at professional development days or donating to our cause. Your generous contribution will fund our bi-monthly events and help us sustain this mentorship program. For further information on how you can help, contact us at tcuw@uw.edu. We look forward to hear from you!
