WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR STUDENT ENGINEERS AND SCIENTISTS....

http://www.elevator2010.org/

WHAT IS IT? SEDS-UW is starting a space elevator design group for the 2005/2006 academic year. We will be designing and building a space elevator "climber" prototype, which will be submitted to an annual competition. The climber will be graded for its' speed and the amount of payload that it can carry up the race track -- a vertical ribbon suspended by a crane. The sponsors of this competition have some deep pockets, so the winners go home with $50,000, $20,000, and $10,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively. A secondary competition in tether design also takes place.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE? Anyone and everyone. We have some great resources here at the UW, and if we utilize them, we stand a good chance at being successful. If you are interested, we would love to have you join the team. Pre-engineers, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering majors -- we could use your help!

WHY JOIN? Not only will you gain valuable experience, meet fellow space fanatics, work with professors and people from the industry, and get research credit as well, but you'll also have a lot of fun doing it.

Here is a short introduction movie for Space Elevators. This video is 5.2 mB, and is also available at the competition website.
