Program Sustainability

This is the groundbreaking year for our chapter’s involvement in the local community. In coming years SEDS-UW will continue to host science competitions among the public Seattle high schools. Ideas for future competitions range from a science fair to a chance to attend one of the many scientific conferences around the nation.

The publicity of this competition will help our club to continue the outreach program. Both the college and the high school students will make speeches to local organizations, schools, and conferences. This activity will raise awareness of our club’s outreach program as well as concern about the WASL results.

SEDS-UW will continue mentoring the high school students by helping them to start a SEDS club at the high school level. Our chapter will also serve as an example for the other SEDS clubs around the nation to begin more high school outreach programs.

The outreach process never ends; we will be continually seeking opportunities to share our project, our science, and engineering experiences. From our results and experiences, we hope to publish a paper and present it at one of many conferences or symposiums. The following list shows the organizations and events we hope to become involved with or continue participation:

• Minority Science and Engineering Project (MSEP)
• Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE)
• University of Washington Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics
• Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium
• University of Washington College of Engineering (COE)
• Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA)
• Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
• Pacific Science Center Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
• California Institute of Technology Student Science Programs
• American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
• Fluid Mechanics Symposium, Conferences, and Journal/Publication
