1.What is HPC?
The Husky Paintball Club is a Registered Student Organization at the University of Washington. We’re a school club open to anybody on campus. Everybody is welcome to come out to the field and play with us (even if you don’t go to UW), but in order to be a voting member in the club, you must be a current UW student. Membership in the Husky Paintball Club is $10 a quarter.
2. What’s the best way to find out about HPC events?
The best way to keep up with what’s going on with HPC is to join our mailing list, and to get involved on our thread on PBNation.com. We send out game reminders to the mailing list 1 week before each of our events, and there is continuous HPC discussion at PBNation.com.
3. How do I become a member of HPC?
Membership in the Husky Paintball Club is $10 a quarter, but is completely optional. To become a member of HPC, come out to any of our events and talk to one of the club officers.
4.Where does HPC play?
HPC plays at Danger Zone Paintball. DZP has an outdoor woods / urban / speedball fields on base at Ft. Lewis MySpace page. From time to time, HPC will also play at other local fields, such as Doodlebug Sports in Everett and Tacoma Paintball, ect.
5. When does HPC play?
We have events / public games every other weekend. Our schedule is updated at the start of every quarter, 4 months at a time. We try to balance out our games between Saturdays and Sundays since some people have to work or go to church on the weekends. We arrive at the field at 10:00am, and usually leave around 2:00pm - 3:00pm. After playing, we usually stop by a local resteraunt to grab a bite to eat and talk about club stuff. If you are planning to paintball on a day when HPC doesn’t have a game scheduled, post in our PBNation thread, there will probably be other that want to join you.
6. How much does it cost to paintball? What if I don’t have my own gear?
DZP Indoor Field (Tacoma) Rates : DZP Outdoor Field (Ft. Lewis) Rates. DZP has rental equipment available for people who do not have their own.
7. Can I bring my own paintballs to your games?
It depends on where we are playing. Generally, the fields we go to are field paint only. For example, when playing at Danger Zone Paintball, you can only use paintballs that you have purchased at their field.
8. How do I go about playing with HPC?
If you’d like to attend any of our events, please send us an e-mail (hpc@u.washington.edu) to let us know that you will be coming. You can carpool to the field, or meet us there. DZP’s field and store addresses are listed on their MySpace page.
9. I don’t have a car, how do I get to HPC events?
If you need a ride to any of our events, or can give rides, let us know so we can get you involved in our carpool from the U-District to the field. The carpool leaves the U-District between 9:15am and 9:30am. Riders should help out their drivers with gas money. We organize the carpools through our mailing list, so make sure you're signed up on it.
10. Does HPC have a team?
Yes, the UW Huskies paintball team competes in local tournaments, and occasionally travels to NCPA events along the West Coast. We have beginner and rookie squads at the moment, and hope to have a novice / open squad as well in the near future. If you are interested in playing competitive paintball with the UW Huskies paintball team, please send us an e-mail, hpc@u.washington.edu.
11. Who can play on the UW Huskies paintball team?
Priority for spots on our local team are given to current / future UW students and alumni. In order to play on our NCPA team, you must be a full time student (12+ credits) in the quarter in which you would be competing. This includes all UW campuses (Bothell, Seattle, Tacoma). We currently have spots open on our teams at every experience level, whether you’re completely new to tournaments or have been competing in them for years.
12. I’m broke; can you guys get me discounts?
Yes, and no. In order to take advantage of our sponsorships, you must become a member of HPC and help out with running the club. The more you put into HPC, the more you get out of it. Some things we may ask you to do are post flyers up around campus, table in front of the HUB to advertise the club, ect.
13. How do I unsubscribe from the HPC mailing list?
To unsubscribe from the HPC mailing list, Click Here
14. Where can I store my gear?
If you live off campus, anywhere that fits or locations your landlord allows. The official story I was told was for any student dorming is to store their gear with the UW police department. The same goes with firearms. The way they see it a paintball marker is considered a hazardous article and as such should be kept somewhere locked and secured (which it should be, if nothing else to keep the marker safe), not something a dorm room supplies. If you have worked out an arrangement with your RA and room mates you may have other options. Please understand anyone who can get access to your equipment can misuse it and cause trouble for the University, yourself, and to our club.
15. Will you pay for me to play/are their any paintball scholarships? The short answer is no. No university or college supplies scholarships of any kind in regards to paintball to my knowledge. Please think of it this way, to earn a scholarship you must have an outstanding ability or talent in a certain field. That talent or ability would have to far outweigh the cost of paying upfront to get you to the school. Even if you are the best player in the world, this is an unreasonable request for a non-profit student organization to fulfill. With that said we do have sponsors and benfits for active club members.
16. I have a question that wasn’t answered here, how do I contact you?
If you have any other questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to send us an e-mail, hpc@u.washington.edu.
