About The UW Go Club
The UW Go Club was founded in fall 2011 with the purpose to enjoy playing and learning about Go. We provide University of Washington students with an opportunity to play Go in person with fellow students. Our members are students from a wide range of Go experience, and we therefore welcome new members regardless of experience level. In order to accommodate beginning players, learning the rules, basic strategy, and tactics of Go is an important component to meetings. We also hope to bring together experienced and intermediate players from across campus. Above all else, UW Go Club aims to provide a fun and friendly environment for all fans of Go and for students interested in learning more about the game.

About the Game
Go is a two-player strategy board game that originated in China roughly 2,000 years ago. The purpose of the game is to surround area on the board known as territory so that at the end you have more than your opponent. You can do this in part by capturing your opponents' stones (surrounding them) and by preventing your own stones capture (forming "eyes").
