Get Your Books the ALISS Way!

Mary Comstock

ALISS Publicity Officer 2008-2009

Are you interested in finding some good books, at a reasonable price, and supporting a good cause while you’re at it? Are you in interested in donating your gently used or even new books to an organization that you can believe in? Well, look no further than the ALISS book sale!

Once a year ALISS puts on a physical book sale, usually in February, and ALISS also maintains a virtual book sale year round on Amazon.com. Proceeds from the ALISS Book Sale help fund ALISS programs and speakers, other Information School student organizations and their programs and speakers, as well as community building events such as the annual Spring Fling. Donations are not only very welcome, they are much needed.

While we appreciate the thought behind every donation, we do have some guidelines that we ask you to follow as you decide whether or not to make a book donation to the sale. Here are the types of items we will be able to accept:

  • Fiction books for all ages
  • "Non-textbook" non-fiction
  • Textbooks which are no older than 5 years from publication, or are the current edition
  • Computer/programming books which are no older than 2 years from publication
  • We will gladly take your well-loved books of any of the above type, but please no items with substantial damage

Thank you for keeping these requirements in mind as you look through your collections for possible donation. We want to make sure that the items we put up for sale as actually sale-able; the more we sell, the more we can fund to benefit the students of the Information School.

Once you have decided to make a donation (or several!), how do you get the books to us? Well, there are several methods:

  • You can drop your donation at in the designated bin the iSalon, 4th floor, Mary Gates Hall
  • One of our trusty volunteers can meet you on campus
  • Or if you have a large donation, we can arrange for pick up at your home or office

To arrange for the pick-up of books, please e-mail our faithful ALISS Secretary, Stefanie Graen
