Nanotech Student Association Constitution

Article I - Name

Section 1 - The name of this organization shall be the Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Student Association (NaNSA).

Article II - Purpose

Section 1 - The purpose of the Nanotechnology Student Association is to:

  1. Foster interdisciplinary research in nanotechnology
  2. Provide a forum for exchange of ideas between students from different disciplines
  3. Promote nanotechnology in the university community
  4. Promote national level industrial and academic interactions with the university nanotechnology community.

Article III - Membership

Section 1 - Membership of this organization shall consist of regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Washington.

Article IV - Officers

Section 1 - Officers of this organization shall consist of the officers listed here.

Section 2 - The duties of these officers are to be determined by the officers themselves and by the projects undertaken by the Association.

Section 3 - The term of office shall be one year unless the Association wishes to extend the term of any given officer.

Article V - Elections

Section 1 - Selection of officers shall be held during the first meeting in June. The president or vice-president will inform the membership of the election meeting by email at least one week prior to the meeting.

Section 2 - Voting will be done by hand-raising and greater than 51% will constitute a majority.

Section 3 - A majority (51%) may approve replacement of an officer if a vacancy occurs prior to the June voting meeting.

Article VI - Meetings

Section 1 - Regular meetings of this organization shall be held bi-monthly. An officer shall notify members of the meeting by an email announcement.

Section 2 - A quorum shall consist of three voting members.

Article VII - Constitutional Amendments

Section 1 - The constitution may be amended by a vote of 51% majority membership at any regular or special meeting.

Section 2 - Membership shall be given notice of the amendment one week prior to the meeting at which the vote on the amendment will take place.
