Disability Awareness Program

What is DAP?

The Disability Awareness Program (DAP) will be a training session designed for University of Washington faculty, staff and students to participate in. The immediate objective of this project is to educate members of the university community on the needs and concerns of students with disabilities. The overall aim of DAP is to enhance the inclusion, awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities at the UW and to advance the university's progress towards a campus that discourages discrimination and openly celebrates diversity

The DAP program shares the structure of the Q-Centers Safe-Zone project, though its aims are different. To learn more about the similarities, please see that program's description.

Goals of the Disability Awareness Program

  • To establish a university-wide network of easily visible allies (by signage on their office doors) who can provide support, information and assistance to disabled students, staff and faculty.
  • To educate members of the university community on the needs and concerns of students with disabilities.
  • To foster an atmosphere on campus that supports the academic and professional success of people with disabilities, as well as their personal, academic and social growth.
  • To advance the university's progress towards a campus that discourages discrimination and openly celebrates diversity.
