06/05 - Victory Over Violence Display. At the final weeks of spring quarter 2005, the University of Washington World Peace Buddhist Group (WPBG) organized a Victory Over Violence (VOV) exhibit at the University of Washington Ethnic Culture Center (ECC). Victory Over Violence (VOV) is a youth-sponsored initiative to help young people identify and counteract the root causes of violence in their lives and in their communities. VOV outreach programs began in 1999 as a response to growing concerns over the rise in youth-related violence. The exhibit ran for a week just before finals. Some students not involved in the organization helped out in the break down of the exhibit. One student was amazed of what WPBG was doing on campus quoting "This organization is about making a difference and we need to see more of this on campus."

11/23/05 - WPBG Officer Runs Marathon. Jone Chung, a UW Mechanical Engineer Ph.D. student and a current WPBG officer, will be running the Seattle Marathon Sunday Nov. 27, right after Thanksgiving. Jone joined the Miles for Smiles training program and Asha group to help raise funds for unpriviledge children in India. Miles for Smiles,a marathon training program, is an innovative fundraiser initiated in 2000. Participants experience the unique challenge and inspiration of training for and running a marathon, while raising funds for basic education in India. It is a true opportunity for tremendous personal accomplishment and a tangible contribution to the cause that can be taken up by people of all abilities.
