Post-exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for IHOP and IHE Students
Students will be required to take a 5-7 day regimen for post-exposure prophylaxis, in case of a needle-stick injury.
Students will be required to fly home after a needle-stick injury if adequate treatment is not available at the host site.
Students are required to make arrangements prior to travel for emergency evacuation insurance back to the United States in the event of a high-risk injury or exposure, so testing and treatment beyond the first 5-7 days of PEP can be obtained. Urgent non-scheduled repatriation back to the United States is estimated to take up to 5 days.
Students are instructed to take the PEP drugs as prescribed following a high risk injury or exposure in the occupational setting. The CDC's guidelines are available online.
