The NABA conference brought together hundreds of professional and student members, academicians, and corporate representatives on October 8-11 2009. During ABBS time at the NABA conference they attended various meetings on developing dynamic interviewing skills and "dress for success" presentations. After learning multiple skills from professionals, ABBS and other students had the chance to show what they have learned during the weekend with a proficient career fair which consisted of interviewing for internships and permanent positions. Many companies attended the conference including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG, and Ernest & Young. When ABBS returned back to Seattle, members had nothing but positive feedback. One of the freshmen Jordan Dacres-Wong attended the NABA conference with ABBS and he had a revolutionary experience.
Jordan:
"This has to be one of my greatest networking events that I've been to so far this year. I learned SOOOOO many things about myself and the other around me in just three days. the one thing that sticks and I can't get rid of: "You're always on." from the moment you walk in, someone is watching you, so you always have to stay on you p's and q's from how you act, to what you're wearing and your appearance, it all is taken into account. I interviewed with a lot of people and got to meet other students who were in the same place as me [4 freshmen out of roughly 100 students] and learning from others who have already been in my shoes and had great advice. i loved talking to people who were already in the workplace, imparting tons of knowledge one to young students like myself. Overall, it’s an experience won't forget for some time,"
NABA has made a difference amongst ABBS in preparing them for future success and career interests in accounting. We have started our own discussions on creating our own NABA charter here at the University of Washington because of the benefits that this association can do for our business school clubs and associations.
