WHAT IS ABBS?
The Association of Black Business Students is a non-profit, student-run organization founded in 1970 to support and encourage Black students who are interested in careers in business. Students interested in related fields of study are also encouraged to join.

ABBS enables its members to develop leadership and communication skills that are necessary to succeed in both academic and professional settings. It will serve as a valuable support base for you while you are a student at the University of Washington.

ABBS sponsors workshops on topics such as resume-writing skills, interviewing skills, and other topics that are helpful to students when they look for employment.

Meetings are held every Tuesday at 5:30 pm in Dempsey Hall Room 124.

INTERNSHIP AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
ABBS annually publishes a portfolio composed of the resumes of its members. The resumes are seen by recruiters nationwide who seek students for internships and career employment. In addition, numerous Fortune 500 corporations make recruiting presentations at ABBS meetings.

OUR MISSION
The purpose of ABBS is to recruit, assist, organize, and in any other way promote the interest and success of  Black students in the Foster School of Business and interested in business related careers. Additionally, we focus on preparing our members for internships and careers.

OUR HISTORY
Dr. Earl Vinson founded the Graduate Association of Black Business Students in 1970. Dr. Vinson saw a need for an organization of African-American students to promote their success in Business Administration studies. He, along with students, designed the organization as a support mechanism by pooling talented individuals into one cohesive group.

In May 1977, leaders of the organization decided to change the name to the Association of Black Business Students (ABBS). This change allowed the organization to expand its membership to include undergraduate business students. ABBS’ goals are now focused on supporting personal growth, increasing professional exposure, and enhancing the academics success of students.

Today, the goals of Dr. Vinson are still evident in the organization. The leaders of ABBS hope to continue its support of all minority students as they pursue studies and careers in business.
