On December 1st, 2009 ABBS and the Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) teamed up and created the first annual holiday party for business associated clubs. The holiday party consisted of a gingerbread house competition between 20 different business and school associations in Ballmer Commons. After the competition there were multiple karaoke performances and treats for all the participants. With the help of Bryant Enge, Elaine Raymond, and HBSA's president Emilio the Holiday party was a great success.
During the holiday party, the contestants had 30 minutes to create the best gingerbread house that showed creativity, neatness, and style. Participants included Black Student Union, Sisterhood, Undergraduate Business Commission, and Pacific Islander Student Commission. The winners of the Gingerbread competition were the Retro Open Mic. Their gingerbread house stood out from the rest of the competition because, of their ability to show creativity by creating a gingerbread musical stage. The Retro Open Mic group is student organization that holds "open mic" the first Monday of every month during the quarter. Open mic attracts all types of talent such as poets and musical artists.
ABBS and HBSA wanted to create more unity within the business club associations at the University of Washington. With the success of this holiday party, we have decided to continue and create a tradition for years to come.
