Meeting Minutes for September 21, 2005

In attendance: Eleanor, Matilda, Usul (SP?) Alanna, Angharat, Muirgheal, Derian, Mika

UW Student Club Paperwork

Derian has enough student "officers" lined up that he will be able to register us as an official club when he gets access to the system early next week. [that would now be this week]. As a RSO (registered student organization) we can have a certain number of free copies from a resource room somewhere in the HUB - after "training" of course - and we can get a 10% (I think) discount card for supplies at the UW bookstore. I believe that Derian will be following up on both of these.

We have an SAO advisor (required, I think - and I apologize for not catching the name), but not a non-SAO advisor (optional) that any of us at the meeting could recall.

We may be able to get money for events from either ASUW or the Grad Student Senate for events. But is first-come, first-serve so we shouldn't wait too long if we want to apply. One source sounds like it may have fewer restrictions (%student attendance, location etc) that the other so we should investigate both if we want to pursue this.

College Budget

We have a balance of $1316 in our portion of the Baronial funds.

College Name Change

Paperwork has been filled out to officially change our branch name from the "College of St. Bunstable" to the "College of Saint Bunstable" as approved last year. This change is being made because research since our name was registered indicates that St. was not a common abbreviation in period. Ask Ursula if you want to know more.

Activities Fair: Thursday Sept 29 from 10:30-2:30 on Red Square.

We get 1/2 of a 6 ft table (so 3 ft). Derian will be there the whole time. If you can come and bring stuff to display/demo that would be great. Derian is supposed to be getting our table banner from Rosalind. Eleanor [has sent] Derian an updated version of a handout with general and contact info on it.

Upcoming Events:

An Tir's 40 Year Celebration will be May 5-15, 2006 run by Glymm Mere (& at least one other branch that I didn't catch) on a site near Olympia. I believe all branches are being asked to help in some way - not sure if we discussed doing anything or not.

Madrone's upcoming events have been shifted around (partly because of 40 year): Baronial A&S is now April 1, 2006 (no that is not a joke) and Baronial Banquet has been pushed back to the fall (Sept/Oct).

January/February would be a great time for us to hold an event if we want to do another Feast of St. Bunstable. Muirgheal expressed interest in helping create a menu.

Spring Fling, normally held in early-mid May, will need to be scheduled early and carefully to avoid conflicts with 40 Year and all the other events trying to avoid 40 Year.

Officers

We currently have a seneschal (Derian), Herald (Ursula), Chatelaine (Eleanor), and webmistress (Mika). Not sure about the A&S minister since Genevieve had sort of taken that on but we don't know if she has graduated or not. The need for a chronicler was brought up and Muirgheal volunteered - so she will be doing the minutes next meeting! :-)

Meetings

We decided to stick with the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Derian will put in the HUB room request for all of these as soon as he is in the system. Our next meeting will be October 5. This will be informational meeting for the (hopefully many) people we recruit at the club fair. Everyone is encouraged to be ready to talk briefly about their main interests/activities so we can present a good cross section of the society. Easily transportable props are welcome/encouraged as well.

Project Nights

CT says we can continue using his house if we want. Although it was pointed out that it might be nice to have some Project Nights on campus as well. As far as suggestions for topics, we noted that Fiach still owes us a class on shoes and a discussion of An Tir lore. A T-tunic class was also suggested - and the comment was made that they are really more of a weekend afternoon project since two hours is really not enough time.

Other class/workshop ideas tossed about either during or after the meeting included: silk banner painting (Adrianna), dancing, cooking, charter painting and/or other scribal arts, and several others I can't remember.
