The Robertson Howard Cornerstone Scholarship ProgramThe Robertson Howard Cornerstone Scholarship was re-established by Pi Kappa Alpha in 1995 in order to recognize those young men entering the University of Washington with a well-rounded high school record. The four areas of personal development, or cornerstones, which this scholarship takes into account are: leadership, scholarship, athletic participation, and civic involvement. Each year, Pi Kappa Alpha alumni donate the money for this scholarship and award it to incoming freshmen who excel in these areas of personal development. The Robertson Howard Cornerstone Scholarship is a housing scholarship, and each of the four applicants chosen by the selection committee will receive $500 towards their housing costs. This amount will be paid out in two installments - one half for fall quarter and one half for winter quarter. The program has been expanding since it re-creation, because of growing support from Pi Kappa Alpha alumni. Past winners have come from diverse backgrounds and sought to pursue very different things in their time here at the University of Washington. However, they were chosen as the scholarship winners because of what they had in common -- a well rounded track record which reflected significant personal development during high school and a desire to continue this personal development in their college years. In order to be considered for the scholarship, a incoming freshman male must complete and mail in the scholarship application, accompanied by a copy of his high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a high school faculty member, and a one page statement explaining his achievements during high school as relevant to the four cornerstones listed above. The mailing address for submitting an application is:
c/o Pi Kappa Alpha 4515 21st Ave. NE Seattle, WA 98105 The application deadline for fall quarter is the last day of May.
