Registered Student Organization at UW

Wed, November 8th, 2006

On November 8th, our group was established as a Registered Student Organization (RSO) at the University of Washington. The purpose of this move was four-fold:
1) It establishes our Outreach Team as an official entity through the UW Student Activities Office, thereby creating stability and infrastructure that is largely independent of student turnover. This new portal should also result in greater visibility.
2) It allows us to move our BAW and Outreach Team websites onto an RSO-designated web space, which will allow all of the authorized Outreach Team members access to managing these web resources (and will free up much of Hiro's personal server space).
3) It creates a central email account for all Outreach Team matters, helping us to keep this material separate from our other day to day activities.
4) It allows us to formally include faculty as ex officio members (people such as Eric or David Perkel, for example), which also contributes to the stability and longevity of the program in a more formal way.

Also, we get discounts with room rental. This will allow us to rent a bigger room for Brain Awareness Week Open House, which we now co-organize with Dr. Eric Chudler.
