Outreach

Throughout the year MRS will present you with outreach opportunities sponsored by other groups and to host some of our very own outreach events to give you the chance to help foster a new generation of scientists. Not only will these opportunities enable you to shape young minds, they will also help bolster your skills in science communication and leadership (not to mention adding these lines to your CV!) which are crucial to be a successful scientist in today’s world.

MRS Outreach Survey

Clean Energy Institute (CEI) Science Olympiad

When: Up to about 5 hours preparation and 2-3 hours on the day of Feb. 24, 2018

Where: Molecular Engineering Sciences (Moles) & UW Campus

How: They need volunteer test writers and designers for a middle and high school competitive science event. Help can be provided.

Northwest Association of Biomedical Research (NWABR) BioExpo

When: Expo occurs on May 18, 2018

Where: Shoreline Community College

How: Devote ~4-6 hours from November to April to help a student prepare their project for the Expo submission deadline April 22, 2018. Mentoring can be carried out online (email, skype, facebook, etc.) or in person by asking questions, offering feedback, and suggesting possible research directions or resources. Visits to your lab are also a big hit among the students!

PrepCorps GRE/GMAT Tutoring

What: Become a tutor to help a local student succeed with their graduate entrance exams and, through your time commitment, also help to hire teachers in Paraguay.

Note: Tutors get paid $50/hour for every session
