In Early 2004, Alberto Ruvalcaba, Miriam Castro and Maria Verduzco got the idea to bring LMSA to the UW.

The fall of that year, they approached the ASUW La Raza Student Commission Director and created the Latino Medical Student Association UW Chapter, a group open to both professional students and undergrads.

They also established the mentoring program, which had a very sucessful first year.
