The Language and Rhetoric Colloquium would like to announce our 2009-2010 Call For Papers and Presentations for our monthly Student and Faculty Speaker Series!

The Language and Rhetoric Colloquium is looking for student and faculty works in progress talks, conference papers, or roundtable discussions of: qualitative work, textual studies, genre studies, rhetorical analysis (including material culture), cultural studies, classroom studies, critical discourse analysis, and anything on rhetorics of the bizarre or strange.

Our theme this year will be "Rhetoric in the Strangest Places." We drew inspiration from the baroque concept of ingegno, a kind of reasoning that establishes relationships between objects that appear to be totally unrelated, resulting in a rhetorical performance that "transports" the audience from one "place" to another. In our case, we encourage you to be as ingenious as you wish when it comes to how you choose to interpret our theme--not only when it comes to the kinds of places where you "find" rhetoric, but also to what it is you find when you get there.

We expect to host at least six sessions of our Student and Faculty Speaker Series during the 2009-2010 academic year! We are interested in individual or panel presentations, lasting no more than 45 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for panels.

If you are interested in presenting, or for more information, please email us.
