About the Language and Rhetoric Colloquium

The Language and Rhetoric Colloquium is run by graduate students in the Language and Rhetoric program at the University of Washington. We are dedicated to a variety of issues, from rhetoric and composition, to critical discourse analysis and stylistics, to studies in English language history, language and discourse theory, and second language acquisition.

Our goal with the Colloquim is to forge a sense of community among students and faculty around and through scholarship in the fields of Language, Rhetoric, and Composition. We believe it is of great benefit for us to share and discuss our work, whether those discussions take place formally or informally. Equally important to us is providing opportunities for our professionalization, so many of the events we sponsor are job talks or dry runs for conference presentations.

We are always interested in hearing ideas for events! To get an idea of the kinds of events we have put on in the past, please review our Events page. To suggest an event for the Colloquium, please email us.
