FAQs

Is the ski pass included in the price of the lessons?
Lift tickets are not included in the price of the lessons, and beginning this year we will no longer offer tickets at a discounted rate. Stevens Pass however does offer an Advantage Card which saves you $5 off ticket prices as well as your first day free. For more info on the advantage card check out www.stevenspass.com.

Is the 3-week program more intensive than the 6-week program?
The three week program is not an intensive course, but it is geared towards intermediate/advanced skiers. There will be three clinics, each on different topics as decided upon by the group and instructor. For example, taking the three week clinic, you could have one week on moguls, another on carving, and another on off-piste (off the groomed trails). In contrast, the 6 week program is a smooth progression from where you are now, to a higher level of skiing or boarding.

Is the bus transportation guaranteed? HWS brochure sounds like if there's no room left on the bus, the guys after that are out of luck.
Husky Winter Sports can't afford to send a mostly empty bus to the slopes. The busses max out at 47 people, so, if you happen to be the 48th person to sign up for a bus, and no-one else signs up, we can't afford to send up a bus with only one person on it. This has never been a problem before, but we encourage people who are interested in signing up for the bus to do so early to avoid any complications that could possibly arise.

What does the equipment rental include?
For skiing, it includes skis, boots, and poles. For snowboarding, it includes the board and boots. They are season long rentals, which means that you will have them for 7 weeks, starting the first day HWS offers lessons. You can use them any day, at any mountain, from when you rent them until they need to be turned in.

I am interested in signing up for the 6 week novice snowboard lessons (I have never boarded before), but would like to know what type of lift ticket I will need to purchase before signing up. Do the beginning lessons require just a beginner lift ticket, or a regular lift ticket (or a combination of both)?
On the first day of lessons for a beginner class, it's probably best not to buy a lift ticket. Your class will determine when you will need to purchase a ticket, by how quickly it progresses. Usually, the first lesson is without a lift ticket, and the second uses a beginners ticket. A full lift ticket is usually needed by the third or fourth weeks, but as I said before, that depends on how your class progresses (it could be much sooner!).

I am curious about the buses to Stevens Pass...When you sign up do you get to pick the dates you want to ride the bus up there?
To take the bus up to Stevens, simply sign up for the "transportation only" option for the Husky Winter Sports lessons. You get the choice of Saturday or Sunday, and 3 weeks or 6 weeks. If you sign up for the 3 week option, you need to specify if you are interested in the first 3 weeks, or the second 3 weeks. For example, if you are interested in taking the bus 3 weekends, and you want to go up on Sundays, you get the choice of the first 3 week set OR you can go up the second 3 week set. Your choice.

If I sign up for the 6 week option, could I have the first 3 weeks be on Sunday and the second 3 weeks be Saturday. Or set it up where I would alternate between Saturdays and Sundays?
That's done on a case by case basis. We try to fill the busses to near capacity, and that would mean you wouldn't be guaranteed a spot for 3 weeks (say you signed up for the bus for 6 weeks on Saturday, the 3 weeks that you swapped to Sunday might not be guaranteed if the bus is at capacity). So, if you'd like to have half Saturday and half Sunday, the best bet is to sign up for two 3 week sessions, one on Sat, one on Sun(we can probably split the difference in price with you from the 6 week program). But we really can't guarantee alternating weekends, that would be entirely on a space available basis.

Do you offer telemarking lessons?
Right now we don't have lessons for telemarking. We hope to have them in the future (maybe as early as next year).

Has the bus pick up point from the Microsoft campus has been chosen yet?

I'm inquiring about lessons for my children. What programs do you offer kids.
Our lessons and clinics are geared towards adults, but we always have some children attending our lessons and clinics. The exceptions are made on a case by case basis, and it really depends on the focus of your child. If their main purpose is to become a very technically strong skier or boarder this is the place for them. If they want to hang out with a bunch of people their age, this is probably the wrong spot. The average age of the people taking lessons with us is around 30, which can be intimidating for some younger children without a parent around.
