We've Got Mail!

by Dana Brownfield

We recently received an email from reader Kara M:

Hi, sorry to bother you, but my name is Kara and I ran across your page while doing some research for my lesson plan. I teach a course on information science and I am not really a typical librarian so I like to find resources on librarian stereotypes to talk about with my class. Your page has been a great resource for me!

While I was browsing your page I noticed that you have a link on your page that says "antiquated conceptions". I use that page too and it's been really helpful.

If you are interested in adding similar resources to your page, then I thought I'd share an excellent page I have found through my own research. I think that this is a great resources of information. It has info on librarian stereotypes in pop culture and a good links section for even more references as well.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

Take care,
Kara

Sorry to bother us? Perish the thought! We love kudos. And while we're on the topic of librarian stereotypes, you might want to look at the Hollywood Librarian project, an on-going examination of librarian stereotypes by the Stuart Hall Library and the Institute of International Visual Arts. Their blog focuses on the image of libraries and librarians in film and provides a bibliography for further research.
