Upcoming events for iYouth:

We will be holding a Booktalking Workshop in the first week of January for your enjoyment. You will learn some neat tips and tricks for giving your own booktalk and have a chance to practice your own!

Dynamic Displays:

Author and KCLS librarian Nancy Henkel shares information about the philosophy and practice of book display and its connection to readers’ advisory. She will provide both tips and examples to help you create easy and effective displays for your library.

Programming for Pennies:

University of Washington graduate and former teacher Jenine Lillian presents ideas for innovative teen programming on a tight budget.

Session 2: 10:45-11:45 a.m.

SCRATCH:

Tech-savvy SPL Teen Services librarian Rachel Bohn introduces SCRATCH, a collaborative multimedia project tool that’s taking teen programming by storm.

readergirlz- Literacy and Service:

Teen authors Holly Cupala and Liz Gallagher share how the readergirlz organization promotes teen literacy and corresponding social service on an amazingly effective platform.

Children’s Picture Book Author Discussion Panel:

Local Authors include: Deb Lund, Clare Hodgson Meeker, Jim Whiting, Wendy Wahman, and Rick Lorig.

Booktalking 501:

Need a refresher in booktalking? Co-led by current MLIS students who love to booktalk, this workshop will give you awesome examples of booktalks AND time to practice your own! Moderated by Sarah Evans, MLIS, ischool guest faculty.

Session 4: 2:45-3:45 p.m.

Early Literacy: What’s Really Going on in There?

Information and insights on early literacy from a research perspective with Gina Lebedeva, Ph.D., from the University of Washington’s Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences.
