Accepting submissions on a rolling basis!

PRIORITY DEADLINE: APRIL 16TH

If you need to submit your project after the priority deadline, email us at plenum@uw.edu after you complete the submission form. Submissions are done via Google Form so please save your submission in a place accessible to us (like Google Drive) and make sure the document is updated with the appropriate permissions for us to access it. Alternatively, you can drop us an email if you encounter issues in doing so.

Submission Guidelines:
  • At least 4 maps that are part of a larger argument
    • 2-3 page introduction
    • 3-4 paragraphs per map
    • 2-3 page summary
    • Conclusion
  • Times New Roman, 12pt.
  • Double spaced
  • 1 inch margins
  • Harvard Citation style

While submissions can be longer or shorter than 10-17 pages (when double spaced), we will only publish papers within this range of length. If your submission is selected, we will work together to edit it to an appropriate length if its too short or too long. Have a shorter paper or write in alternative modes? We're still interested, check out our Casual Entries page or email us at plenum@uw.edu.

Things to consider:
  • Does the piece have a cohesive and well-thought-through argument?
  • Is the piece approachable and accessible to a broad audience?
  • Is the topic in dialog with recent and relevant scholarship?
  • Is the topic compelling?
Additional Notes:
  • We accept submissions from all disciplines so long as the work reflects core themes of geography, such as spatial relationships and the importance of place. Not sure if your piece qualifies? Submit it anyway!
  • Plenum published both original research as well as course term papers. Before submitting, please adjust your paper for your audience (e.g., defining any terms that may be course specific).
Publication Process

If your piece is selected, you will meet with your assigned editor regularly over the course of the quarter preceding publication. Plenum publishes high-quality work which contributes to larger conversations within Geography, whether that is addressing a gap in the literature, furthering current scholarship, or taking an innovative approach to existing scholarship. We expect that you are interested in challenging yourself and your work to meet Plenum’s standards of quality, integrity, originality, and critical analytic thought.

Plenum reserves the right to not publish a piece that has been initially selected or edited during the quarter preceding publication.
