Woo hoo! A student in Freshman College in Hong Kong wants to know, "how to devide the parts of the brain"
Here's an answer:
Classically there are 5 brain regions, the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, frontal lobe, temporal lobe (from back to front), and the cerebellum below cortex. Read More
Within these regions are several more brain areas that are specialized for certain tasks. For example, the main vision center is in the occipital lobe while the motor region is in the parietal lobe, and somatosensory (touch) is in the frontal lobe. Even within these areas are subregions specialized for sensing touch on your left hand or responsible for moving your left foot. In the early 1900s a German neuroscientist, Brodmann, set out to identify all of the brain regions. He came up with 52 areas based on the structure and function of that area. Today many of Brodmann's areas are still used, but borders continue to change as we learn more about how the brain is organized.
Wow, the brain is so cool!
Hey, what's the one thing you wish you knew about the brain?
