Letters of Recommendation
Quoted from the Air Force Personnel Center physician education website 21 Jun 2007:
"Joint Service Graduate Medical Education Selection Board (JSGMESB) applicants may solicit two personal letters of recommendation at their discretion. It is recommended that applicants consider soliciting one letter from an individual that can comment on current performance and capabilities and another letter from an individual working in the specialty for which the applicant is applying, if possible. For example, applicants for Radiology may wish to solicit a letter of recommendation from a staff Radiologist. Medical students may wish to consider soliciting a letter of recommendation from a staff member at the location where they performed their Active Duty Tour (ADT). Current or previous Program Directors and JSGMESB interviewers are required to provide evaluation forms as part of the JSGMESB application and are not authorized to provide one of the two required personal letters of recommendation. Active duty staff physicians are required to submit a letter of recommendation from their commander, which does not count as one of the two personal letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Physician Education Branch (DPAME) by the JSGMESB suspense dates. If more than two personal letters of recommendation are received, they will be discarded and will not meet the Board, so plan accordingly. For further guidance on letters of recommendation, refer to the JSGMESB application instructions."
