An overview of Husky CERT
We are a registered student organization at the University of Washington. Our aim is to bring attention to the issues of sudden illness and emergency response on campus. We are especially committed to training students to respond in an autonomous and effective manner to sudden medical emergencies on campus. We are also actively working to create volunteer opportunities for students to serve the university community as part of a campus emergency response program, with the ultimate goal of creating a student participated Basic Life Support (BLS) response service.
In working towards our mission, we are a training site for the American Heart Association (AHA) on campus with training center oversight from CPR Seattle. We are certified to teach Heartstart CPR and Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider CPR). We also provide First Aid Standby for events on and around campus. Husky CERT consists of professional and trained personnel such Washington State certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Medical Assistants (MAs), etc. However, membership is open to anyone who is interested in EMS and our purpose. No training is required although we do provide opportunities to pursue it. We are a completely student run organization.
