2008-2009 Financial Aid Revisions for Additional Expenses

The Office of Student Financial Aid does attempt to meet your total academic year educational costs, minus your expected family contribution (EFC) with available federal, state, or institutional grants/scholarships/loans. However, students may see that they require additional expenses as part of their college education. This may include things such as child care, medical/dental expenses, unusual transportation costs, study abroad, internships, exchanges, books/supplies, computer, and a number of other things. In order to get the additional funds, go to the financial aid office in Schmitz Hall 105 and pick up a Financial Aid Revision Form for Additional Expenses (or you can download it here). Read through the document and fill it out. Most students will use this form to increase their UW budget to allow for the cost of a laptop*. The Office of Student Financial Aid will allow up to $2200 for this expense.

You can go to any financial aid counselor in Schmitz Hall for help. Any of them are well qualified to assist you, but if you prefer a counselor who specializes in the Gates Millennium Scholarship, contact Eileen Robison at erobison@u.washington.edu.

*Please consider your options prior to asking for a revision for a computer cost. You can only do this once during your entire academic career at UW. The University has many resources for you to use, including the computer labs that are updated with many great software and brand new hardware, as well as checking out laptops from Classroom Support Services. Technology comes out with newer editions very quick and what you may purchase now, may be outdated very soon.

If you are ready for the revision, fill out the application as soon as possible, doing this too late may result in a delay of your money being disbursed to you until the following quarter. For more information, go to this site Office of Student Financial Aid.
