Campus Girl Scouts University of Washington Meeting Minutes March 3, 1999 6:30 PM HUB (Husky Union Building) 209B Facilitator: Leanne Gilly Note Taker: Hannah Tang GSTC Advisors: Angelina Ramirez, Amy Poort Present: Suzanne Snyder, Megan Davis, Stephanie Richardson ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Americorps Presentation We were fortunate to have a speaker - Marya Felenchak, from the Graduate School of Public Affairs - come to our meeting and give a brief introduction to Americorps. Started in 1994, she likened the program to a "domestic Peace Corps." There are two main branches to Americorps; the VISTA organization, which focuses more on setting up volunteer structures, and 'helping people help themselves', and the Americorps program itself, which focuses more on hands-on volunteering. Americorps offers a large number of volunteer activities, from teaching to disaster relief. Contact Angelina for Americorps contact info. Registration & Officer Elections Our timeline for club registration is too late to obtain an office in the HUB sub-basement for the 1999-2000 school year, though there is no deadline for obtaining e-mail and web access. Officer elections will be held at May meeting, (see below). CONCLUSIONS: While we are still a small club, having an office in the HUB will not be necessary. We will apply as soon as the constitution is finished. ACTIONS: None. Next Meetings Our next meeting will be held in the evening of April 7, 1999, at Main Council Office, starting at 6:00 PM. Officer elections will also take place at the May meeting, whose date and location have not yet been set.
