Campus Girl Scouts
University of Washington
Meeting Minutes
January 25, 2000
4:30 PM
HUB (Husky Union Building)
Facilitator: Hannah Tang
Note Taker: Leanne Gilly
GSTC Advisors: None
Present: Megan Davis, Jessica Tang, Leanne Gilly, Nicole Kidder
- Purpose of Group:
- We discussed whether the Campus Girl Scouts should be a
community service orientated or social group. It was decided
that we should focus more on community service as well as
visiting troops in the local service unit
(Lakesound).
- Candy-Grams:
- There had been plans to make candy-grams for Valentine's
Day, but it was decided we did not have enough time to make and
sell them.
- Community Service - New Girl Scout Troop:
- Nicole Kidder, the public relations intern from council,
talked with us about a local Halfway house that is looking for
college age students to volunteer twice a month. Council would
like to set up a Girl Scout Troop at the Halfway house for girls
and their mothers coming from abusive families. You would need
to commit to coming twice a month (Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30
pm) and working with either the girls or in training the mothers
to become involved in the leadership of Girl Scouting. They are
looking specifically for a Trainer to lead the mothers and other
Campus Girl Scouts to help out. The girls range from ages 6 to
13. If you need more information or want to sign up, call
Angelina Ramirez at the Seattle Office (206-633-5600). The
first meeting is planned for Tuesday, February
8th.
- Girl Scout Birthday:
- We also decided look into passing out cake on March 7th (or
Fat Tuesday) as a way to promote Girl Scout Week and the Campus
Girl Scouts. We are looking into the possibility of doing this
and will most likely be making posters at the nest meeting as
well as small flyers to hand out.
Meeting adjourned at 6:00pm
