Element News TribuneNorthwest Women's RegionalsFinal Standings: Wash/BC Women's SectionalsElement rocked at Sectionals, beating rival UBC to take first place in the section. We were undefeated for the tournament, defeating Western Washington (13-7), Whitman (13-4), and Puget Sound (13-2) on the first day. Sunday was when the real action started, and Element started the day facing rivals UBC for the first time in pool play. Solid play and upwind points saw us take control of the game early, and end up winning 12-6. Next we faced SFU and pulled out a strong win (13-3), and then defeated PLU (13-4). Undefeated pool play gave us a by and the chance to face UBC again in the finals. Again Element went up a couple of points early in the game. UBC tried to come back on us, but it was too late, and we won 13-10. This was a huge win against a highly ranked team, and it gives us good seeding going into Regionals. more info.: More InfoCenTexIn CenTex, we fought all the way to the finals, playing strong against some very good teams. On Saturday, we won our pool 4-0. We won by five or six points against Dartmouth, Colorado, and North Carolina, but had a tough game against Oregon that we pulled out 11-9. Sunday was very windy, and we used our strong handlers to defeat Wake Forest in Quarters (15-5). In Semis we faced UCLA, and avenged our Stanford Invite loss with an 11-5 win, due mostly to our success scoring upwind points. In finals we played UBC, who were also strong players in the wind, and ended up losing by a heartbreaking 9-7. more info.: More InfoStanford InvitationalWe played solidly in pool play on Saturday, winning all our games. We squeaked out a win against North County 11-10, and then went on to defeat Western Washington 13-7, and then rivals (and tournament hosts) Stanford 13-9. Sunday saw us matched up against Colorado in championship play, who we defeated 13-9. In quarters, we faced Texas, and quickly finished them off 15-4. Next we faced UCLA BLU in the semi-finals. After trading points the whole game, it came down to the final point. First soft cap went on, and then hard cap, while we battled it out. Unfortunately, BLU came up with the win, but we showed them we are a force to be reckoned with. BLU went on to win the tournament against UBC 13-9. We played for 3rd against the UC Santa Barbara Burning Skirts with an injury-reduced squad, and ended up in 4th (3-7). more info.: More InfoTrouble in Vegas |
