Big Blue is going to be WOOF3D's newest large format 3D printer. The printer is being designed by club members to be the largest and fastest large format 3D printer in its class with a build space of 1mx1mx1.5m. The manufacturing costs to build this printer are going to be a fraction of the cost of any other 3D printer of this scale on the market and will be open sourced.
Big BLue has been being designed since the begining of winter quarter 2014 by a small group of WOOF3D members. It is currently approaching the final steps in its design review. The build period will begin during Summer quarter 2015 and is planned to be completed by Autumn quarter 2015. The WOOF3D club looks forward to not only being able to use Big Blue for its own projects and ideas, but those of other clubs and groups throughout the college of engineering as well as the rest of the University.
The WOOF3D club looks forward to not only being able to use Big Blue for its own projects and ideas, but for those of other clubs, groups throughout the college of engineering and the rest of the University as well. The interaction and collaboration between these communities will not only lead to the oppurtunity to explore the untapped potential of designs and products that only large format 3D printing can accomadate, but also will provide bridged learning experiences between clubs, departments, and the different colleges in the University that normally wouldn't be interact with eachother.
