COVENANT OF RECONCILIATION |
We recognize that not all Church
communities are a safe place for people to express themselves as they truly
are. We recognize that this has been especially true of gay, lesbian, and
bisexual people. Many of these people are often met with discrimination and
injustice that cause pain, suffering, and spiritual depletion rather than
spiritual nurturing. We see this kind of behavior as incompatible with the
teachings of Jesus, who showed compassion to all people and welcomed
everyone, even if it led to his own criticism. We also believe that
discriminating behavior does not reflect our vision of God's love, grace, or
justice. We at Wesley Club strongly believe in being
inclusive to everyone who comes to us in search of a spiritual home. We
accept and affirm people for who they are regardless of religious background,
race, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or physical challenge. We strive
for a welcoming environment where the gifts and talents of each of God's
children can be recognized and nurtured. Coinciding with this philosophy and as a
result of studying the issue of human sexuality in the church, we have
decided to officially declare ourselves as a Reconciling Campus Ministry, an
open and affirming community, on this 16th day of April 1995. For more information on the United Methodist Reconciliation Campaign, visit the "Open The Doors" website. |
