Mission accomplished: New Voters Project

1,060 new voters

The University of Washington Vote Coalition, which consists of WashPIRG and a handful of other campus groups, registered 1,060 new voters this fall.

Here’s why that’s awesome:

Voters under the age of 44 made up about 37 percent of the vote in 2012. Voters under the age of 35 made up just over 20 percent.

And voters between the ages of 18-24 made up around 5 percent of the vote in the last Washington midterm election in 2010.

By getting registered, 1,060 voters will now have their voices heard on the November ballot and in the general elections.

But, we’re not done yet.

Registering is great, but it doesn’t make any difference if you don’t get out to the polls.

Not sure what’s on the ballot? No problem. It’s easy to study up on the issues before you get your ballot: visit Living Voters Guide here for explanations of state-wide and local legislation.

Know someone who’s afraid to vote because they feel like they don’t know enough? Send this article their way, the Living Voters Guide provides info for uninformed or brand new voters.
