EXTRAS
Sex (Positive) Week - May 26th-29th, 2009 - Spring Quarter
VOX hosted it's annual Sex (Positive) Week, promoting health sexual attitudes, openness, activisim, and information about reproductive health. VOX tabled all week long, giving out Safe Sex care packages and promoting the varying activism opportunities and petitions currently going on (including continuing to promote Green Choices and awareness about how environmental toxins can affect reproductive health). There was fun and information to be had by all!
"Pedro" Movie Viewing - April 1st, 2009 - Spring Quarter
As part of the Get Yourself Tested campaign, VOX hosted a movie night to watch "Pedro" (clicky for a movie trailer)!. The movie was very heart-wrenching, and a real reminder of how HIV/AIDS really affects people - not to mention how many prejudices still exist. It was a beautiful movie, and I highly recommend that those who couldn't attend the VOX viewing, still watch the movie! Oh, and there were cupcakes!
Lobby Day 2009 - February 23rd, 2009 - Winter Quarter
Planned Parenthood ferried down VOX members, along with other supporters, to Olympia for lunch, Lobbying and a general good time! This year's issues included funding for Planned Parenthood, and trying to be sure that WA State doesn't have to apply for funding it can't get because we have comprehensive sexuality eduction (YAY!), but, alas, we don't get sex ed funding from the government due to that. So, this year's issues were money focused - but in this economy, that makes them big issues! Stay tuned for next year's Lobby Day Issues!
The Vagina Monologues - February 12th-14th, 2009 - Winter Quarter
In conjunction with The Women's Action Coalition (WAC), VOX put on The Vagina Monologues. As always, it was an absolute blast. This year we are donating procedes to CARA: Communities Against Rape and Abuse. There were T-shirts and cookies and vagina pops and Oh My! It was fabulous. It was poignant. It was The Vagina Monologues! Happy V-Day everyone! *Pictures will be forthcoming.
Roe v. Wade Day - January 22nd, 2009 - Winter Quarter
For the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, VOX hit the HUB lawn to table the day away. We were nestled (rather, comfortably spaced), between a group working on an AIDS charity ball (cool!) and the pro-lifers. Everybody was civil, and we got a lot of people coming up to us thanking us for being there, so that was great! As usual, people loved our Roe v. Wade bracelets - which we always have if you didn't get your chance to grab the hot item today. Here's to Roe v. Wade and all the freedoms it affords us!
Safe Sex Night - December 3rd, 2008 - Autumn Quarter
Safe Sex Night was a presentation done by VOX on behalf of La Raza for STD Week (as a part of World AIDS Day work). We settled in the Terry Lounge and talked with predominately latin(o/a)/hispanic students about STDs/STIs, contraception, what VOX does, and everting else Safe Sex! It was an awesome experience. Everyone there was really into the event; people asked lots of questions, we all interacted really well and, for a presentation, it was very informal and comfortable. It was exactly the environment that VOX strives for - one where people are comfortable asking questions and confident in our knowledge of the answers (or willingness to refer them to someone who would know, if we don't). Kearstyn headed up this event planning in concert with Renato, of La Raza, and Kearstyn and I presented. It would have been awesome to have more presenters, and it was so, so much fun! So next time, we expect to see the rest of VOX there! We really want to do more work with the latin(o/a)/hispanic community and La Raza in the future, so there will hopefully be many opportunities to participate in such a fabulous event! My only regret? Forgot the camera. ;)
Sex & Ice Cream - November 6th, 2008 - Autumn Quarter

Sex & Ice Cream was a Sex Ed Presentation in the 4th floor Terry Lounge, complete with real life Ice Cream. This made it inherently awesome. Krista and Ryan and I presented birth control facts and games and condom usage. We tried our best to answer questions and disprove any myths that might have appeared (hence the above picture - condoms aren't as small as they may at first appear). There was even music. Michael, the RA we coordinated with, was exceptionally awesome. It will be even more fun next time, see you all there!
Student Activities Fair - September 25th, 2008 - Autumn Quarter

The Student Activities Fair was awesome. The bear made the rounds (thanks to a little encouragement from Jamie), Orion proved that guys prefer to accept handfuls of condoms from other guys, I (Sarah) lost my voice almost completely by the end of the day, and Stacy DeLong stopped by to help table and prove that she's schmexier than all of us combined. Woo, that's a lot of stuff! Stacy was a total hit with everyone, probably due to her vast knowledge on all things PP. Orion totally rocked the Guy Bracket. Jamie made some fabulous facebook fliers (I'll get them up as soon as I think to bring one home to scan). And Kearstyn was a super-cuddle partner at the cold, rainy table (although we muddied our fabulous shoes doing interesting things ;)). Oh, and we totally rocked out with the Environmental Advocacy guys, who we'd love to do an event with sometime soon (Earth Day, anyone?). Hope to see everyone at the next one, I promise just as much insanity and probably as much rain!
