Academic Standards Committee

Charge: To monitor, review and propose academic improvements related to the grading methodology and scholastic standards for the J.D. program. The committee will also be charged with devising and authorizing an enforcement mechanism to be utilized by the Law School Administration and Academic Student Services. The committee will have within its ambit the promotion of standards that will improve teaching, enhance research productivity, and foster curricular cohesion. It will, when appropriately, work in concert with the Curriculum Committee.

Admissions Committee

Charge: Implementation of admissions criteria and review of admissions applications. This committee will review the admissions criteria on an annual basis to consider changes or modifications that may be warranted by the changing dynamics of the student applicant pool. It will also be responsible for faculty oversight of student financial aid and loan repayment programs, review the admission policies and statistics of the Graduate programs for compatibility with Law School admissions standards, and provide faculty input for orientation of admitted students.

Curriculum Committee

Charge: Ongoing consideration of the existing curriculum in the J.D., LL.M, and Ph.D. Programs. The committee will review proposals for new courses and changes to existing courses. The Committee will work closely with the Academic Standards committee to encourage overall curricular cohesion, integration of part-time and visiting faculty, and interdisciplinary study with faculty colleagues across campus. In the coming year, the committee will be charged with considering how additional writing and research skills can be infused into the J.D. curriculum. It is possible that this committee will work in concert with a specially appointed Curriculum Reform committee.

Initial Appointments Committee

Charge: Recruit, interview and present tenure-track, lateral tenured, and "look see" visiting professor candidates for identified permanent faculty positions in the School of Law. Although this committee will not have the large work load of last year's committee, it will be responsible for reviewing the candidate market, attending the AALS recruiting conference, and considering future hiring priorities, and continuing the work of this year's committee on positions that remain unfilled.

Lectureship and Visitor Committee

Charge: Identification, contacting and recruiting visiting lecturers and professors, including named visiting professors and lectureships. Visiting professorships that are "look-see" in nature will not be processed through this committee, but will be handled by IAC.
