Welcome to the new Student Bar Association (SBA) website and thank you for visiting! Our website has a number of resources, including a calendar of student events, study materials, and information about activities; and I hope that you find it helpful.
There are a total of 18 elected students on the SBA executive board. The board has a number of roles, including representing student interests to the administration and faculty, organizing student activities and events, facilitating contact between students and alumni and legal professionals, and working to build a strong community here in Gates Hall.
I hope that you will not only rely on the SBA for assistance, but that you will also be an active member, and will work with the SBA and other student organizations to improve our law school experience. Every student adds something special and unique to our school, and we hope that you do not underestimate the opportunity you have to make meaningful contributions.
Over the summer, the SBA executive board created four committees for the 2004-2005 school year that we feel will best enable us to serve the student body. I've briefly reviewed the committees below, so that you will know what our priorities are. In addition, if you are interested in joining one of our committees, we welcome you to do so.
Our four committees are:
1) Academics/ Curriculum Reform
Goals: to foster better relationships between students and faculty and to identify issues and assist with curriculum reform efforts.
2) Communication
Goals: to improve communication within the Gates Hall community as well as with the University and other graduate and professional programs. One of the big projects for this committee is the maintenance of the student activities calendar on our website.
3) Professional Relationships/ Networking
Goals: To facilitate networking and to help build professional relationships with alumni and the legal community, and to get alumni involved with student activities in Gates Hall.
4) Student Life
Goals: to sponsor activities and events- both educational and social, to promote healthy lawyers (we provide information for counseling resources, and host the time management panel, and organize stress reduction activities.) The student life committee has the overarching goal to foster a close knit community here in Gates Hall.
If you have any questions or concerns about the SBA or the Law School please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail at loves@u.washington.edu. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Additionally, all of the SBA Board members are happy to lend any assistance or advice they can to make your time at the law school as enjoyable as possible.
All the best,
Suzie Love
SBA President
