Monthly Meetings Starting Oct 10 @ 6:30pm

Happy fall! We hope you’re getting some time to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather in the midst of busy schedules.

Monthly meetings
Now that the quarter is underway, we’re going to have the first of our monthly CMDA meetings. The final consensus for date/time is: 2nd Saturday of each month (that’s *THIS* Saturday, October 10th) 6:30 pm

We’ll be having a potluck meal at the home of Drs. Scott followed by a time of sharing and prayer. This week, we’ll be joined by Michael McLaughlin, CMDA’s regional director! Come join us, bearing food or no food, and feel free to bring family members, significant others, friends, pets (hmmm maybe not pets…though I’m sure the Scott kids would be thrilled!).

Let us know if you’re planning to come and/or need help finding a ride!

Seattle Missions Fest Oct 2-3

Seattle Missions Fest is happening Oct 2-3 (Friday PM and Sat all day) at Westminister Chapel in Bellevue.

It’s FREE, and the conference features plenary speakers such as Stuart and Jill Briscoe (www.tellingthetruth.org), David Wong (Asian Outreach), and Steve Haas (World Vision Vice President). Bios of the plenary speakers and seminar leaders, and the full schedule are on the website.

There are several free seminars, with many great speakers/leaders, and several exhibits to browse through.

CMDA Welcome BBQ

When: Saturday 9/19 from 4-7pm.

Where: Drs. John and Patricia Scott are our wonderful hosts (see  mailing list for directions.)

If this is your first time at CMDA, just come enjoy! Otherwise, it would be  great if you could help bring a beverage or dessert. We may also need some people to help with set up/clean up and grilling. :)

Almost to the home stretch! Here are the details for our CMDA meeting this Friday. We will be having an evening with Michael McLaughlin, the CMDA Western Regional Director and all around great guy. He will be sharing on “The Counter-Intuitive Pursuit of Happyness ( with a nod to Will Smith ).” Don’t miss it! As always, family, friends, colleagues, and kids are always welcome.

Also, we are looking for first year students interested an opportunity to serve and represent Christ as leaders of CMDA for the next upcoming year. We really need a few of you to step up as Jessica, Linh, and I will be transitioning to third year and beyond. If you are interested, please speak to any of us or the Scotts on Friday. Please pray about becoming a leader, we need you!

Lastly, I want to encourage you to volunteer at the Latina Health Fair this May 16th. Medical Students are especially needed and it would be awesome to show other service groups on campus that we are ready and willing to serve and love others through Christ!

Latina Health Fair

I wanted to invite you to serve at the Latina Health Fair with me this year. This is my third year and let me tell you, it is great! If you are a UWSOM student/care provider, you can volunteer in the patient care area doing a variety of screenings. You don’t have to speak Spanish and you will get a free T-shirt and lunch.  Please read the a following information and come represent Christ as we serve our community.

Medical Missions – Saturday

Join in fellowship Saturday evening April 25, 7 pm
Dr. John Meisel will discuss recent mission trips:

Mission to Cambodia: Evangelicals Serving Cambodia(ESC)
Medical Outreach To Tong Neak Village; Part of a 9 Year, 4 Church Multi
Partner Ministry In Cambodia

Discussion will focus on our most recent trip but highlight work and
background strategy as outlined in Bryant L. Myers book “Walking with the
Poor”, Orbis, 1999, now in its 13th printing in 2007!.  For those of you
interested in this seminal book on modern mission ethics and strategy,
you are encouraged to read this book before coming.  There will be plenty
of time for discussion.

7 pm dessert – bring “potluck”

Has your relationship with God changed since you started medical school? Have you felt your faith questioned or threatened? Do you get bogged down in the task of balancing school (or clinicals or work) with life and God?  Do you want to share some great fellowship and delicious food?
